Questions
Questions about working with us
The ones we hear most often on the phone. If yours isn't here, call or send a note.
Getting started
What does a first meeting cost?
First meetings are thirty minutes. Ask when you call; we'll tell you the cost, if any, before you come in.
Can we meet by phone or video?
Yes. Many clients outside Decorah meet by phone or video first, and come in only to sign.
Do you take clients from Minnesota?
Yes. Some of our lawyers are admitted there, and we keep a Minnesota line for clients across the state line.
What should I bring to the first meeting?
Any papers you have about the matter: court documents, deeds, leases, a will. If you're not sure, bring it.
Fees
How do you charge?
Wills, closings and many criminal matters are a flat fee. Family law and disputes are billed by the hour. You'll have the terms in writing before we start.
Do you offer payment plans?
Often, yes. Linda can set one up with you when we agree to take your matter.
Working together
Who will handle my matter?
The lawyer you meet first, from start to finish. If a second lawyer helps, we'll tell you who and why.
How quickly will you call back?
We return calls the same day or the next business day. If your lawyer is in court, someone in the office will let you know.
What if you can't help?
We'll tell you at the first call and give you the names of lawyers who handle that kind of matter.
Still have a question?
Call the office, or send a short note and we'll call you back.
